If my festive xmas post left you feeling grumpier than a Walmart employee on December 26, you should enjoy this rebuttal from Shannon (See Fig. 1).

(Fig. 1) I wouldn't mind bumping into her under the mistletoe...

Things to add to your (+) list of “hxmas” appreciations:

1. CHRISTMAS MUSIC -it’s cheery, and it reflects on the weather and how good it makes you feel, and also is never about sad things

2. the abundance of sugary baked goods. They are EVERYWHERE. and lots of time, for free.

3. The Christmas Spirit- (even if you hate christmas, you must love the christmas spirit) people are generally in better moods around this time of year, and for whatever reason, are just so cheery. this is how i think people should treat one another all year round… but thats another story. For me, the spirit of Christmas is not about God, or anything having to do with religion- but it is the time of year you appreciate the friends you have, and the family thats around you. For the rest of the year, the little things get lost in the hustle and bustle, but at Christmas time you realize how many people you have around you who care, and it’s a time to show them how much you care (whether you do or not is up to you) … but i guarantee that come the christmas season, someone will be showin you some love, and you will like it dang it! That’s why I love christmas. everyone loves each other. even if it’s fake. its better than hating.

4. HOLIDAY PARADES. little kids in costumes throwing you candy and waving. also, there is always a little someone called SANTA at the end of said parades.

5. speaking of santa, Christmas time is the only time you can go to shopping malls and watch kids sit on santa’s lap, some of them get SO excited, but most of them cry. you seem like a person who might find that amusing ;-)

6. Christmas = good excuse to be lazy and NOT do anything productive. ex: “C’mon, it’s Christmas”

7. Christmas Carolers. you either love it or you love to hate it. either way its a win win. join the fun or make fun, the choice is yours

8. All wintry activities that you can do over Christmas break. Sledding, snowman building, ice skating, etc. SO FUN. even grinchy types likes yourself can enjoy a little snowball fight. even if it means hitting poor little johnny right in the eye.

9. maybe its just me, but Christmas time, is cozy time. all occasions are ones suitable to be “cozy”. mmmm feel the warmth.

10. Christmas is awesome because you know new years just around the corner. I know you love new years.

I disagree about the X-mas music. If I never hear Jingle Bell Rock again I will live a happier life than if I ever do again. However, Val, I think the key to enjoying Christmas comes from the music. Allow me to quote from the Christmas music canon, “Have yourself a merry little Christmas/Make the Yule time gay.” So that’s it: Make the Yule time gay. If anyone can do that, it’s you.

So THAT’S what xmas is all about! It’s like you’re Linus and I’m Charlie Brown. If they were internet-only friends.

I love Christmas music. I particularly enjoy the incredible crassness of the moment when we try to squeeze an extra syllable into the fourth line.
